Charger Output
The Pipet-Aid® XP Gravity is similar to our standard XP model but has two key differences. In addition to the burgundy-colored buttons, clip, and nosepiece, it features a gravity (G) setting that allows for the dispensing of contents without activating the motor. This method is commonly used with volumetric pipettes.

Operations & Service

Speed Controls: The XP Gravity has three settings on each button to set the desired speed range.  The top (fill) button features S (slow), M (medium), and F (fast), while the bottom (empty) features S (slow), M (medium), and G (gravity). The fill and empty buttons are independent and can be set at different speeds. The speeds are changed by simply rotating the button until a detent is felt and the letter is upright when held in the right hand. The buttons are also proportional. As with all other Pipet-Aids, the further you depress the button, the faster filling or dispensing will result. With both buttons set at “M”, the XP will operate at the same speed as the Portable Pipet-Aid. Rotating the button to “S” will reduce the speed to approximately half of the medium speed, while rotating to “F” will double the medium speed.  In the case of the XP Gravity, changing the empty button to G will drain the pipette using gravity, not the pump. DO NOT CHANGE SPEED RANGES WITH LIQUID IN THE PIPETTE.

Changing the Filter & Nosepiece Removal (View a video on the “Maintenance Video” tab): Just like the standard XP, the XP Gravity has a one piece nosepiece that contains the filter and rubber insert. This nosepiece locks into place and will not loosen when removing the pipette. To remove nosepiece, slide the nosepiece release button towards the handle and turn the nosepiece one quarter turn counter-clockwise.

Battery Replacement (View a video on the “Maintenance Video” tab): The battery is contained in the upper portion of the handle. Removal of one Philips screw (B), will enable you to remove the battery compartment door which will give you access to the battery. Use only Drummond replacement batteries (4-000-035). Under normal conditions, these batteries should last approximately 2 years.

Charging the Battery: The Drummond replacement battery is a Ni-MH battery which should be charged overnight following use. No “memory” will be developed and overcharging is not a problem.

Use of the Removable Stand: This lightweight stand slides onto the top of the XP, enabling the user to set the Pipet-Aid XP Gravity down without removing or emptying the pipette. The stand will prevent liquid from running back into the nosepiece and prevent the pipette tip from contacting anything, thus maintaining sterility. When not needed, the stand is easily removed.

How long will it take to charge my device?

Original Portable Pipet-Aid: Charging the unit for up to 5 hours should completely charge the battery. It is recommended to keep the charger plugged in whenever not in use; this will ensure optimum battery life. All rechargeable batteries have a limited life span. Generally each battery will last approximately 1000 cycles (charges) and then must be replaced.

Pipet-Aid XP/XP2: It should take up to two and a half hours to fully charge the battery. You can still use the Pipet-Aid while it’s plugged into the charger; the charger also seconds as a power supply.

Pipet-Aid XL: It should take up to two and a half hours to fully charge the battery. You can still use the Pipet-Aid while it’s plugged into the charger. The charger also seconds as a power supply.

What is the difference between the XP (4-000-101) and the XP Gravity (4-000-102)?

The Pipet-Aid XP features three speeds on the buttons; (S)low, (M)edium and (F)ast. On the XP
Gravity, the fast speed on the dispense button is replaced with a (G)ravity drain. This feature
allows the user to dispense the liquid by gravity; allowing the liquid to simply fall out of the
pipette when the button is pressed…the motor will not run in this mode.

Can the Pipet-Aid be autoclaved?

The short answer is no.

Although the nose piece and its components (with the exception of the
TC Filter) can be autoclaved.

– Wiping the unit with a soft cloth or wipe with isopropyl alcohol is sufficient to clean the
unit.

– Avoid the use of acetone and other organic solvents which will damage the handle.

– Always disconnect the charger from the unit when cleaning.

– Prevents both over-pipetting and cross-contamination.

– Each layer has a pore size of .8µm; the two layers combined create an optimum barrier to particles as small as .1µm

– Once wetted, it will cease to pass air alerting the user that over pipetting has occurred.

What size pipettes can be used with the Pipet-Aid
