Portable Pipet-Aid®XP Operation & Service
Speed Controls: The XP has three settings on each button to set the desired speed range (S=slow, M=medium, F=fast). The fill and empty buttons are independent of each other and can be set at different speeds. The speeds are changed by simply rotating the button until a detent is felt and the letter is upright when held in the right hand. The buttons are also proportional in nature. As with all other Pipet-Aids, the further you depress the button, faster filling or dispensing will result. With both buttons set at "M", the XP will operate at the same speed as the Portable Pipet-Aid. Rotating the button to "S" will reduce the speed to approximately half of the medium speed while rotating to "F" will double the medium speed. DO NOT CHANGE SPEED RANGES WITH LIQUID IN THE PIPET.
Changing the Filter & Nosepiece Removal: Unlike other Pipet-Aids with the T.C. nosepiece, the XP has a one piece nosepiece that contains the filter and rubber insert. This nosepiece locks into place and will not loosen when removing the pipet. To remove nosepiece, slide the nosepiece release button towards the handle and turn the nosepiece one quarter turn counter-clockwise
Battery Replacement: The battery is contained in the upper portion of the handle. Removal of one phillips screw (B), will enable you to remove the battery compartment door which will give you access to the battery. Use only Drummond replacement batteries (4-000-035). Under normal conditions, these batteries should last approximately 2 years.
Charging the Battery: The Drummond replacement battery is a Ni-MH battery which should be charger overnight following use. No "memory" will be developed and overcharging is not a problem.
Use of the Removable Stand: This lightweight stand slides on to the top of the XP enabling the user to set the Pipet-Aid XP down without removing or emptying the pipet. The stand will prevent liquid from running back into the nosepiece and prevent the pipet tip from contacting anything thus maintaining sterility. When not needed, the stand is easily removed.
